    Hello lovelies,

in January I wanted to go to a 1920s party and suddenly remembered to my horror, that I never made a dress or bought one. The 1920s are not my preferred type of look, the sack-like dresses only look good if you are tall and have tiny hips (which was also the popular figure at that time). And I am small and have enormous hips. I looked up some extant garment and chose to make one out of a light pink velvet and embroidery it with black beads. It doesn't really make me taller or slimmer or gives me the 20's figure but all in all it was super comfy and definitely a nice party.
The following was my inspiration from the Met Museum. I didn't do the ribbon though which can be seen on the right hand side, because I ran out of fabric :(.

And here was the inspiration for the embroidery:

I started cutting out the velvet after a quick mock up. The pattern is from my dress block but without any tucks, front and back.

As for the skirt part, it was just two rectangles which I pleated to fit the bodice.

I cut out the fabric but left the front part uncut. If I would have cut the front part like my sewing pattern then I would not have had the space to put it into my embroidery frame.
The front was embroidered with silver sequins and black miyuki pearls.

My light is so bad. See the next picture for a proper colour.

It actually didn't take long for the front part. But embroidering the skirt part took ages because I had too much skirt fabric.

But apart from the time consuming embroidery, the making of the dress was a pretty quick job.
The lining was made from a thin white cotton fabric which was partly my mock up.

The dress is super wrinkled but I made this dress in less than two weeks and had no time to steam it.

The head band was literally made 30mins before I left the house. Phew.

Weeks later I decided to also embroider the head band.

But I liked the outcome and for a very hasty project it definitely looks okay. It could have been much worse.
Enjoy the sewing vlog I uploaded on youtube.

    All the best,
