    Hi lovelies,

if you know how bureaucracy works in Austria, you will probably get a splitting headache immediately even before reading this story. And for those who do not know, just imagine this: try to solve a Rubik's Cube while blindfolded and with your hands tied behind your back.

If you need anything from the magistrate, you must personally go there and register instead of doing everything online. Some things did improve during covid (yes, I also need to talk about the good points here) and they added a few online services. Plus, they managed to switch to appointments only instead of just going there with 100 other people and wait in line for hours. Literally. Thank you covid, for improving Austrian bureaucracy.

But don't get me started if you only have limited German skills, it's like trying to solve a math problem with letters instead of numbers. And don't come alone if your German is not great, there are people working there who refuse to talk in English with you.

My big adventure started on a rainy thursday afternoon, on the 13th of April 2023. I was finally ready to register Royal Duck as a small business and for that I got an appointment at the magistrate at 3pm (you need to go to the one that's in the district of your shop location eg. I registered in the magistrate of the 15th district because the shop I rented is in the 15th district but I live somewhere else) And the good citizen I was, I was there 10minutes early. The woman at the counter sent me up to the 2nd door, 2nd floor. And there I waited. And waited.

The room was big, empty and grey, an ugly mix of Gründerzeithaus (built around 1900) and 70s interior design, freshened up with a few plants near the window. After 20 mins a woman came out to ask for my business, she then sent me away to the other room which was at door 3 (thanks again to the nice woman at the counter for the wrong door :) )and there I encountered another civil servant coming from the bathroom who took me in.

She was super kind but when I told her I do bead embroidery, have jewellery made out of Plexiglas and also stream and get money from ad revenue and donations she was a bit overwhelmed and kindly asked me to go to WKO - Wirtschaftskammer Österreich (Austrian Chamber of Commerce) because she didn't know the exact category in which to put me in and even asked if I would like to register two businesses’. And no, I do not.

    WKO

WKO has their seat in the 2nd district next to Praterstern which is only a few stops from my work, and I could go there without an appointment, so off I went.

Apart from the three receptionist there was no one around and it was eerily quiet. I didn't wait for longer than 5 minutes before my name was called and I entered a glass room office that looked so uninviting and uncomfortable, especially as the window overlooked the train tracks. But apart from that, I had a friendly woman who took care of my registration.

In Austria, if you want to open a business, you must bring the following: yourself, and a passport. You also need to swear that there are no reasons of exclusions from opening a business (as in, signing a sworn statement rather than do it orally) and that's it.

Now that you registered your business at WKO, there are two others one needs to register at:

    • Finanzamt
    • SVS

    Finanzamt

Fill out form Verf24 on their website. Trust me, that's the easiest way because they don't have an email address and if you don't want to do it online, you have to physically go there. Before you go to their site, you need an ID Austria (a kind of mobile signature -> you can get this at the Municipal court or online)

Fill out the form and hope it's correct. I got my tax number on my online tax inbox at finanzonline a few days later so I think I filled it out correctly. Fingers crossed!

    SVS

This is the insurance company - as a small business you are not obliged to pay pension- or health insurance, but you must pay for an accident insurance (which I thought was insanely funny. I am working at home on my sofa and desk, what was the worst thing that could happen there? Fall of the sofa? Get attacked by my cat?). The insurance is 10,97 a month if you don't earn more than 35.000€ a year and is mandatory.

While Finanzamt was quick, SVS took ages to reply. And in ages that is more than two weeks. But I finally got my papers and the confirmation, that I really only needed to pay the 10,97€ a month. Lucky me.

If you expect to earn more than 35.000€, you need to pay for health insurance and a pension fund which is so much more:

This means that health insurance is about 6,8% and pension fund is about 18,5% of your expected earning. For the sake of the calculation, let's say your expected earning is exactly 35.000€

    Health insure 6,8% of 35.000€ is 2380€ a year or 198,33€ a month

    Pension fund is 18,5% of 35.000€ is 6475€ a year or 539€ a month

Accident insurance is always 10,97€, no matter what you earn.

    Firmenbuch (company register)

    2.380 Quelle: https://www.blitzrechner.de/prozent/

Now that everything was said and done, I had to think about getting my business registered in the company register entry (Firmenbuch). It's not mandatory for small businesses that earn less than 35.000€ a year. But the only benefit I saw is that no other company can bear the name you chose for the company. And even if you have a name registered, you always also have to put your real name underneath it: My company is now registered as my Name and Surname. With an entry to the company register, I could have a company name but still have to put my real name on documents. If you know me, I hate to put my real name on anything on the internet. It does not feel safe at all, but here I am, trying to earn some money and therefore need it plastered to everything I sell with Royal Duck. Where are the times when everyone was saying that you do not put your real name on the internet?

I tried calling Handelsgericht Vienna, but they just reconnected me three times until I came to a person who asked me to call again as she was not on her desk at the moment. I did say it was easy, wasn't it?

After an hour I finally reached her at her desk, and she checked my chosen name. It was still available, to no surprise. All names have to be unique and therefore there must be a short check in the database. Afterwards I could register the name online (hooray!) and then I waited again. Allegedly, one can register for free at Handelsgericht if the company is less than a month old, which mine is. But I am pretty sure they will conveniently forget, and I need to pay. The information on where to register was quite hidden but I found it! You can register at justizonline

    • Fill out the form with your data.
    • But be aware, email adresses were not able to have a _ (underscore) in their name?? The form just deletes it.
    • Fill in the rest and send it. A few days later, you'll receive an electronic message that the company is registered. To access it, you once again need a digital or mobile signature.

    Edit:

well, it has been a few days later and I got 79€ deducted from my account for the registry. So I checked and justizonline.gv.at is not the correct way to register IF you are a new business. New business have to register under: https://www.usp.gv.at

    Bombastic side eye.

The GISA number (GewerbeInformationsSystem Austria) arrived a few days later on my company adresss. It's the unique number of your business. Not sure what I need it for though.

But apart from that letter, you will get a ton of other letters. On my company adress I also got a letter from Metro (a kind of wholesale) and on my private adress I got a letter for enrolling at Wirtschaftsbund, a business newspaper, etc.

On the other hand on my email adress, I already got 4 emails from Landesinnung Kunsthandwerke Wien, and one from WKO for a summer event called women in business.

I am beeing flooded with mails and emails and it is more than annoying.

    Addendum: Grundumlage

Good I didn't post this entry yet because yesterday I got another letter. It seems like everyone who is registered at WKO also needs to pay an anual fee (!) called Grundumlage. And my fee was 200€ for 2023. Just awesome, more money gone.

More information at Wko.at or download the pdf from 2022 directly to see all the fees.

    All the best,

    Auris Lothol

    Hello lovelies,

right after I arrived from Italy I had tickets für Dita von Teese's Glamonatrix show and it did not disappoint. I had already been to a show in 2018 when she was in Vienna for her show "The art of the teese" and the acts were all amazing. I even recognized Dirty Martini again from the first show and the only guy, Jett Adore. The MC Jonny McGovernwas super hilarious and had been the MC in the other show before. The full cast included Dita von Teese, Dirty Martina, Zelia Rose, Laszlo Major who was from Budapest and told us that his parents were in the audience, Jett Adore, Tosca Rivola and of course the Vontourage.

The only problem I had was that the show was held at Stadthalle in Vienna and I did not see very much because we sat all the way in the back. Damn! To fix this before the next show, because I really wanted to see Dita's face, I bought myself an opera glasses. But in the end, I didn't need it because Glamonatrix was held at Burgtheater and the seats were different and not that far away from the stage so I could see much better than before. But I guess I have an opera glass now for for other shows were I do not see a lot like...Rammstein?

I tried to go with the theme of the show and add a bit of glamour into my outfit. The dress is from DreamV and the overlay is from Mon Lily. The bag belonged to my grandmother and it's so cute but very small. The shoes are from a vintage store but I do not think they are very old.

I also wear a mask whenever I go to venues or shopping and to my horror I realized that 90% of the people in the theater did not wear a mask. Why? It's just a piece of cloth. I find masks very breathable and I like wearing one. I really do not understand it. It's the new punk. lol

    M. and I were much too early and had to wait for almost 40mins until we could enter the hall. Usually one is able to enter an hour before the start but I think they still had rehearsals because we could hear the music through the closed doors.

Burgtheater is a small but very nice, art nouveau style theater built in 1888. The show was not sold out but it was very full.

There are no pictures of the show or videos because it was not allowed and I respected this wish, even though I would have loved to have a full video of Dita's performance.

At the end we went and bought ourselves some merchandise and I finally have a new brooch again! I bought myself a brooch at the first Burlesque show, it was Dita and her cat and so cute. I only wore it a few times and keep it in a glas case most of the time.

Usually I am not a T-shirt girl but that print was just so hot, I really wanted it. I'm thinking of maybe just using it as a sleep shirt or something like that.

    Have a wonderful weekend,

    Hello lovelies,

I have big news for you all.

I did it. I quit my job. And I couldn't be happier about it. It feels like I have just come out of a toxic and abusive relationship. I am so relieved I finally managed to do this even though I feel so bad for the colleagues who will be left behind.

But what does it mean for this blog and my social media in general? My plan is to expand this blog, Patreon, Instagram (unless Zuckerberg decides to shut off Instagram and meta for all European users) and more importantly, finally start streaming on Twitch. I will probably start to stream in March after I, hopefully, passed my Latin exam and my plan is to stream some crafting and gaming, depending on the mood. Please go over there and follow me, my username is: Streamingwithcats
I realized my cats would be in every shot as they are always visible in the background, so why not incorporate them into the stream.

My twitch site still needs a nice picture and pop-up signs and I am thinking of hiring someone for it because my designs are always crappy. haha.

The cats that are currently living with me are:

    Maja

Maja is probably a Norwegian forest cat mix and she came to us at a very young age in October 2015 because her owner grew allergic to her. She was so tiny when she moved in but grew into this big and beautiful cat. A lot of my friends adore her. Maja is shy but also super curious. She might hide at first but would always come out to investigate. Maja is a daddy's girl and prefers the cuddles of my SO.

    Sheila

We got this loveable Maine coon from the shelter in August of 2020 together with Devil. She is a mummy's girl and always seeks my side to get some cuddles or falls asleep next to me when I nap on the sofa. She is super shy and won't be visible at all when friends are over. Her favourite hiding place is between the sofa and the wall and she can stay there for hours. Her fur is white at the roots and black at the ends (she and devil are over 10 years old and a grandma in cat years), so I always joked about getting her roots retouched.

    Devil

It took about a year before Maja and Devil could tolerate each other but I am glad that they seem to be in agreement to just ignore each other most of the time. Maja and Sheila did not have the same problem but both Maja and Devil are a bit more dominant than Sheila. Devil had to have most of her teeth removed as they were broken or rotting. Her fur is the shortest but it seems to tangle the most, plus she also hates brushing so we had to resolve to just cut out those furballs. Devil has no preferred human, she comes and goes as she pleases.

Maja is the only one who can be carried for a longer period of time. She is not squirmish or cries while being carried which makes her the ideal picture partner. Devil can be picked up but she will try to escape after a few minutes. And Sheila will not be picked up for nothing. She panics and will try to get away and even scratch the person, no matter who tries to pick her up.

I hope to see you all on Twitch soon! Or support me on Patreon starting from only 1€ a month!
    All the best,

    Hello lovelies,

I live in a very old apartment, it was build around 1900s and most of the furniture is about 30 years old. I tried to modernize the flat but the progress is so slow. But for 2019 I said I really want to tackle this problem and use my extra money on new furniture and a good electrician.
The first item I want to buy is a new sofa and M. and I visited four different furniture stores before we decided to buy the very first sofa we saw at the first funiture store, which coincidently was ikea. I am a huge Ikea fangirl so that is really no surprise.

My outfit for that day was another Valentines coordinate but this time not lolita but larme. I haven't worn larme in a very long time, actually I think I didn't wear it in 2018 at all, shocking!
The skirt is from Swankiss and the pullover from H&M, or as a friend called it, titty window.

    Hello lovelies,

in August I had a small photo shooting and I just got the pictures!
At first it started out as a quick outfit shot but we quickly made it a bit more artsy.
We worked with a white ikea curtain as prop and drapped it around me on the forest floor. I still find random plant parts whenever I see the curtain.
My friend Souly from Blur of color edited the pictures.

    Have a nice weekend!

    Hello lovelies,

October is really busy in Vienna and we have a few halloween meet-ups and events.
Normally halloween is not really celebrated in Austria because it let's be honest, it is an American festivity. But in the last couple of years more and more kids and young adults dress up and celebrate it.

This Sunday the j-fashion group had a little meet-up in Vienna in Little Britain. I first wanted to go as witchy gyaru but my boobs didn't seem to fit into my Jesus Diamante dress so I went for a witchy lolita coord again. This time I wore my souffle song dress with a small witch hat, on some of the pictures it looked like a black unicorn horn. It is not a very creative coordinate but it was fun.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and the waitress was super funny. I have never met such an outgoing and extroverted person in my whole life. She made talking with people look so effortless.

I drank a nice cup of darjeeling and ate my favourite scones. I know of no other place in Vienna that sells them, what a shame!.

I hope you all have a witchy halloween.

    Hello lovelies,

my sister and I met up for a tour through an open-house event in Vienna but we didn't expect all the people who were also interested in the houses and the queue was massive. We therefore decided to skip the event and instead walk through Vienna's first district and do some pictures.
And these pictures really turned out very instagram-y.

My blouse and skirt are from Liz Lisa, the bag from Primark and the shoes from Deichmann.
I made the little hairbow myself. Remember my video?

As I sat on these stones I lost my balance and almost toppled over. My sister managed to capture the funny moment.

Vienna really does have a lot of nice corners.

Afterwards we went for tea and cake to the recently opened Ferrari Pasticceria cafe.
The food was a bit pricey but very good.

Taking pictures of your food is very important, haha. My sister had a very sugary almond dessert.

My bread was good but a bit cold and too small.

I had a white chocolate-rasperry cake with coconut flakes at the bottom. Super yummy.

And what is a fun time with the sister without a few snow pictures?

The next posts will be sewing and costume related again, I promise.
If you follow me on Instagram you always get the newest updates on my sewing projects.

    Hello lovelies,

two years ago I started collecting vintage pattern and sewing magazines. Ebay and an Austrian site similar to ebay called willhaben.at are my best go-to for these old magazines. I am thinking about maybe scanning the magazines but some of them are really old and crumbling so I am not sure if that's a good idea. Maybe photographing them would be a better idea.
