    Hello lovelies,

some of you might know that I am collecting vintage sewing magazines and sewing patterns. I mentioned it in this post where I shared all of the items I had collected so far.
I was browsing through etsy for new ideas and I found this super cute sewing pattern from the 50s for a dress. It has a scalloped neckline, sits tightly at the waist and has these cute pleats at the skirt part.

And I am a very weak person and bought the pattern. But my fingers were itching and I wanted to do a dress now and not wait for it to be shipped from New Zealand to Europe.

And so it happened that I did my own version of this dress. It was the first time I made kimono sleeves but they worked out really well.

Same with my front part. I should have ironed the whole fabric beforehand but I am just super lazy.

The secret to successful scallop sewing is to use really tiny stitches. A lesson hard learned.

To be honest I really liked doing kimono sleeves because they look good and you don't have to set in sleeves. Hooray.

And here the dress with the pleats. I made the mistake to cut a lot of fabric for the skirt and the three pleats were super deep and I had to re-pleat the skirt a lot before I liked it.

I did the zip after that but forgot to take pictures of course. Afterwards I sewed down the neckline.

As for the hem, lazy me just folded it back once. Shame on me.

The last thing I did was to add a cute little button at the back to hide the fact that the zip I had was too short. And I didn't want to order or move my bum to the nearest fabric store.

And that was it! I think it really worked out well.
After only two weeks my pattern arrived and I will definitely make another dress but with the original pattern (and different fabric) and I am super excited to compare the dress to my pattern.

Here are some worn pictures of the finished dress.

    Hello lovelies,

After I finished my Steampunkdress (right in time for the photo shooting) I decided I wanted to start with my 50s blazer immediately.
Burda sold a whole magazine dedicated to vintage patterns from the 50s.

And this is the blazer I am talking about:

And this is the technical drawing:

The instructions are in German only and even to my eyes and ears they sound super gibberish. I figured out what some of the things are but I have no idea what the want from me with the pockets in the front. So I will hand sew them...?

This is the front part draped on my sewing doll. The white fabric is the inner lining of my poket.

Close up. The chalk is almost gone by now and by the end I have to redraw it...I see it coming.

This is the back. My doll has not my measurements (for now) and therefore it may look a bit too big.

Another close up. The folds are almost in one line, almost.

That was the day before yesterday and yesterday I had my free day and worked some more. I could join up both parts.
The pokets are still pinned in place and I have to sew the front sides. But as I said, the Burda instructions are very unclear.

I joined the back part just to see how it looks like. The collar is really huge and I don't know if I really want that. Maybe I'll shorten it...
Also the back part looks a bit messy but I just threw it over my sewing doll this morning without fixing it. Better picture and more wip will follow on the weekend.

That's all for now, the crappy pics don't really make it justice :(.

    Have a nice weekend,

    Hello lovelies,

it's already June and I am super busy. Tomorrow is the first try out for a video project I already had a mind for over a year and  therefore I am very excited.
There are a lot of new sewing projects but I don't have any pictures yet. But I want to share some outfit of the days and coord.

Last weekend I went to a 50s-60s party. I really  like the music of that time but I also know, that I'd never want to have lived at that time. There is still so much racism, sexism and homophobia but it got better and we went a long way from the 50s. So I rather enjoy the fashion and music from them but in my time, thanks a lot.

Front and back of my hair! It's all messy but it was my first try and I think I did well.
Also, see the cute penguin earphones? Aren't they just the cutest?
I made the dress myself btw, back in 2012. see the entry here

Then last Tuesday I met my mother for lunch. We went for some asian food at Akakiko but I was not very fond of their bento boxes. In all other asian restaurants, they serve bento boxes with sushi or maki, and/or spring rolls or other goodies. But at Akakiko I had Bulgogi bento, with Bulgogi, three different kind of salad (I really dislike salad), rice and a mini (bought) cupcake. And they are the most expensive asian chain around. I then remembered why my last time at Akakiko was last year.
I wore my skirt for the first time and even though I gained so much way in the past year, I still managed to fit in...somehow. Urgh. The gym is calling again.

On Wednesday, Matthias and I went for food in Vienna's pride house, the "Rosa-Lila Villa". The restaurant called "Willendorf" has excellent food and drinks. I ate white fish with a pumpkin seed coating. Afterwards I ate Topfenschmarrn with apricots and it was super delicious too. They also have some nice cocktails and the one with blackberry reminded me of a drink I drank as a child (without alcohol though) called Ribena. I have no idea if it's still on the market but I have the urge to buy and drink it again.

    Rest: offbrand

Today was the Regenbogenparade (gay pride parade in Vienna, but literally translates to rainbow parade) and I went there with a few friends but the weather was horrible because it rained, stopped, sunshine, rain. I try to be at the parade every year. It is always a blast.
Austria always tries to presents herself as such a liberal and open country for homosexuals but let me tell you, she is far from it. Homosexual people can't get married, they are sometimes ridiculed in public for holding hands or kissing their significant other and families cut off their offspring because they can't live with them being homosexual. But hey, at least we had homosexual and heterosexual traffic lights and now everybody is happy. Not.

    The rest is offbrand.
It was so cold I wrapped my scarf around my shoulders because I didn't really have a matching bolero or jacket. I am still in need of a nice one.
The first picture was made when I was still in my pyjamas. I am not satisfied with the outcome of the hairdo but it was sufficient. I wanted to do a rococo inspired hairdo for that outfit to make it more rococo like but I think in the end my hair rather reminded me of an Edwardian hairdo. Oh well.

    Have a wonderful weekend,

    Hello lovelies,

remember my trip to Berlin? I forgot to write about it with all the pre-christmas stress.
I searched for some cute 50s shop online and found the shop "strawbetty" in Berlin.
It took me ages to get there and it was dark by the time I found it.
The shop was small but so cute. I strolled around and couldn't decide on what to buy. In the end, I got a sailor dress (also lolita compatible) and a sailor bag, for under 100€! In Austria I would have paid 100€ alone for the bag or the dress! Not to mention the shipping..ugh.

It is very easy to reach if you take the Ubahn to Warschauer Straße and then with the tram number M13 toWühlischstr./Gärtnerstr. I didn't know and got lost a thousand times...

I already checked and a petticoat fits underneath. Hell yessss!

    Details of the bag :3

Apart from shopping I also went to a lot of Restaurants and spent my time with dear Yoshi, whom I hadn't seen in more than a year. We kinda renewed our love to Lareine and Kamijo and spent our  Sunday with being nostalgic about it.

When I got home to Vienna again, after a delay due to the heavy fog, some parcels arrived for me.
Two Bodyline skirts, fake lashes, stockings, and an eyebrow pencil...
Only one skirt because the other one was just a very plain white skirt.

I got all three items from ebay :)
    Details from the stocking...

Last but not least,...My Liz Lisa Luckypack is on its way to Austria already. I hope to get that awesome coat in white! Keep your fingers crossed :)!
