Belgian Tea party

July 17, 2026

Hello lovelies,

I'm a bit late to the (tea) party but here is my experience from the Belgian Tea party from March 2026. I have written about the days following up to the tea party and my lace trip through Gent, Brussels, and Bruges

But the real reason we went to Brussels was the Tea party "A royal affair". Picture from the Instagram @a.royal.affair.event

The tickets were 110€ a piece and were sold out immediately. I vividly remember sitting in front of the laptop, my heart beating, and suddenly my new debit card wouldn't let me pay. Payment worked with my visa card but these were absolutely horrifying 2 minutes. lol.

It was also announced that Misako Aoki would come as a special guest and I was super excited as I had never seen her live before.

So, that was the prequel to the story and roughly 2 months after buying the tickets we were in Brussels and ready for the tea party.

We started the day with a long breakfast at a cafe just across the street from our hotel. The breakfast items looked amazing and they also had vegan options.

Friend of mine is obsessed with Eggs Benedict and she somehow infected the whole friend group. So my breakfast was a nice plate of eggs Benedict.

And Hias had a bread with mushroom and avocado. Both dishes were delicious.

It actually took quite a long time as we waited outside for 15-20minutes before we could get a seat. Then the food took a while and after we finished eating we only had an hour left to get ready. The shock and horror! We quickly got ready and I had to improvise my hairdo as I had planned something elaborate but ran out of time.

I don't think it looked half bad. Apart that it only looks like a simply updo. lol.

The event was at la maison du cygne which was located at Grote Markt. You can imagine that we were the #1 tourist magnet that day.

Once we entered we got a bag of goodies and immediately stood in the vendors hall. I had no budget for more trinkets so I quickly fled into the first floor.

We reservered seats in the middle for the Q&A and then stood outside and chatted with other people and even (but rarely) got some snacks. Hias even got some vegan items after explicitly asking for it.

While standing outside we got to do pictures with the photographer and I think they turned out fancy. Hias is disappearing into the dark background a bit but I'm the beacon of light again.

And of course we made some funny pictures with the whole group. I'm happy that so many of my fellow Austrian Lolitas attended because I'm super introverted and I have a really bad time talking to new people. I think I only chatted to one other person I followed on Instagram for a very long time.

Here is the full team Austria! Dani (second from the right) even won best dressed!

My camera started reflecting the light into the camera as I have a small tear in the display. therefore some pictures have that weird reflection.

And here two pictures from Instagram, these two lovely lolitas wanted to take pictures, so we did!

You were able to take pictures with the special guest too and it was only 10€. My work colleague said Misako looked like 15?? She looks young but definitely not underage lol.

Then we had a Q&A, an auction, and best dressed contest, in three categories: gothic, sweet, and classic.

We also did a group picture were we tried to ignore all the tourists that took pictures of us. That was so annoying.

After the even we made even more pictures and then, sadly, had to leave again.

The light in this niche was nice so we made a few pictures!

And this became my new favourite picture of Hias and me! We look adorable.

And even more pictures outside.

After we arrived at the hotel we felt a bit empty and melancholic. We decided to change and then roam the city a bit. The others were eating delicious mussels but because Hias couldn't eat anything, we decided to not go to dinner with them. A decision I regretted dearly as I love eating seafood, that we went to the same restaurant the next day to eat mussels. Or, for me to eat mussels. Hias had french fries.

Brussels in the evening is super pretty, at least the grote markt. I remember living at Brussels Zuid the last time I visited and thought it looked very ugly.

We had a small dinner and then waffles at Maison des Gaufres because they looked fancy. And then we settled into our comfy beds to craft or read.

And that was the Belgian tea party!

The next day we just went for mussels and waffles, roamed around the palace, and then flew back to Vienna. It was not really a noteworthy day. We wanted to go to Museums but had forgotten that they were closed on a Monday.

And with this, you have seen all there is to see from out Belgian lace and lolita trip.
