    Hello lovelies,

in August Hias and I attended a Regency picnic organized by Kochkulturmuseum in Eisenstadt, Burgenland. It took place in Schloss Esterhazy and was only about 45min away by car.

I was never at this Regency picnic or the castle before and we were a bit confused where to go as we were about 5-10 mins late and there was nobody at the entrace of the castle or at the cashier.

But the cashier let us through when she saw our costumes and told us where to go. We arrived in the gardens soonafter and luckily, we were not the last people to arrive.

At the reception my partner and I got drinks and then talked to some of the vendors. I got a brooch which reminded me of scotland and outlander, mostly because it was the inspiration of the jeweler too, from Orniello. Then we set off to find a good place to put our blanket. Two musicians came and sat down a bit farther and played but we didn't really hear them that well. We debated if whe should more closer but then decided against it because we like the spot.

After a ginger drink (their longtime sponsor is Mister Ginger) we got our baskets and were able to tuck in some food. In our picnic basket was a curry dish and cutlery. And we were brought sandwiches and mini pies.

Cheese and cucumber sandwiches with the picnic basket in the background.

It was the perfect occasion to wear my Regency gown again I made back in 2020.

I got the hat from an aquaintance who cosplayed Lizzie from Pride and Prejudice (movie) and I thought it fit perfectly with the style.

We also got a salad dish (which was not my favourite...I just dislike greens and salads). But it's a wonderful example for a vegan dish and a non-vegan dish. Mine had an egg and roast beef with beets on salad.

After eating, we had a small tour through the gardens and the garden room of the palace were we also visited the famous music hall "Haydnsaal", named after Joseph Haydn.

It was very sunny but not hot as the wind was going strong. It sometimes blew the sand from the path into our faces, which was great as Hias and I both suffer from dry eyes. Now we had dry and sandy eyes.

As we came back, there was a dance instructor who started to teach a Regency dance but I skipped this one. I have no interest in dancing and dancing doesn't like me either.

I spent the time standing at the dessert booth and shoveling rose mini cakes into my pie hole. They also had a pineapple jelly, which was a modern take but it was really lovely. The lavender jelly on the other hand was not my favourite but okay-ish too.

And don't forget to watch the video to see more of the picnic:

Have a wonderful day and see you next time!

    All the best,

     Hello lovelies,

surprisingly, the video for the regency picnic is out earlier than my written post about it. Unbelievable. But it was fun cutting and writing the script, it all happened in one afternoon.

I hope you have fun and wait for my written post to enjoy more details.

    All the best,

    Hello lovelies,

it is time for another outfit of the day post. It has been a while. A long while. But university is just so tiring that I really had no motivation to do anything except for studying, working and rotting on the couch. As for the outfit of the days, June and July are the next two months on the list.

June begins with cats. I tried to do cat ear hair and I still think it was a very cute idea. My hair was also super short and very pink. The dress is from Leur Getter, the necklace from Rosemarie seoir, although I am not sure if this is a necklace or belt, a vintage bed jacket and Jesus Diamante shoes. With this dress I like to go either all in black or all in white with my blouse and accessories because of the black and white cat print. And this time I went with black again.

I wore this second outfit for the Lolita teekränzchen which was held again after months of corona-hiatus. We went to eat in a really delicious Chinese Restaurant and I remember that I had to go there alone because my bf has just gotten his second shot and was not feeling well. It was weird going out in lolita again but I had a wonderful afternoon with the girls.

Here is the full group picture taken by a friendly waitress. The light was not in my favour.

The next is not a lolita outfit but I think it counts too. Plus I made the dress myself. We were residing at Burg Bernstein and it was the perfect week.

We made a lot of pictures of my Regency costume and I also brought a lolita outfit. I already made a post on that last year.

Later that month I wore a darker outfit. The dress and tights are from Violet fane and I just love the print. Bonnet is from Angelic Pretty, if I remember correctly. I should do a wardrobe post again...

Off to July! The month started with yet another darker outfit and to ne honest, I didn't like it too much when I saw the pictures. The dress and bottom half are ok but I do not like the hat in combination with the flat hair. Oh well, now I know better. JSK is from Bodyline, hat is vintage.

This mon lily overdress has been in my collection for ages but it feels like I didn't wear it in the last three years. The belt like straps in front always reminds me of a gun holster which makes it a bit too edgy for most of my cute outfits. But I wanted to try it with an ultra cute and pink chiffon dress and somehow it didn't look too bad. I actually like the look a lot, especially with the blond lockshop wig.

The headband was in my possession for ages too and that was the first time I wore it. Once again, no idea why because it is super cute. A friend sold it to me at a bring and buy and she bought it in Japan herself.

The next outfit is just a super casual dress for a meet-up with my sister. We got some bubble tea and enjoyed the sun (in the shade).

The last coord for July is my lavender Angelic Pretty Dramatic Rose dress. This time I combined it with an Angelic Pretty hairbow (I bought it in Paris 2019), a white Infanta blouse and lavender shoes. It's simple yet elegant.

And on that note, I will end this post. Once again I want to remind everyone that I am still on hiatus and only posting when I have time and want to procrastinate from work or university. My first draft of my thesis was submitted last Friday and since then I suddenly have the energy to revive my blog a bit, sort pictures and write on my patreon. But I soon have to finish the thesis and then I'll be probably gone again until mid-March, plus I have my Latin exam then. Wish me luck!

    All the best,

    Hello lovelies,

this part will be all about the sewing the skirt and finishing the dress. Even though it involves a huge amount of fabric, it was less time consuming and easier than the bodice.

When I held the pattern of the skirt part onto my body, it looked huge. Or maybe I am just tiny.

I kept this length when I cut the fabric. I didn't know how long it would be when sewn onto the dress and I'd rather have it too long than too short because I did not have any more fabric left. In the end I had to shorten it by about 30cm.

After cutting the fabric, I pinned all the back seams together and sewed it. The front is made out of just one panel, therefore there was no need to sew anything. YEY. This picture only depicts the back part of the dress. No idea if I did something incorrectly but the gores look super misplaced.

back skirt panels sewed together to form a large back part

As for the front, I folded the sides inwards, pinned them, and sewed it. The instructions for the skirt were a bit clearer at this point but I still had a few questions. No idea if what I did was correct but it kind of worked out.

After the sides I folded down the top and cut it in the middle. There is still a straight line visible at the top, this is were I sewed a tunnel to thread in the white ribbon.

The picture from the original dress is below. It actually does look quite similar to what I did. I got all the pictures from Fig Leaf pattern's pinterest.

This is the front part. I used a very long linen band so I could wrap it around my body. The band was inserted with a big wool needle, they are blunt at the tip and have a huge eye, which make them perfect for the job.

So, this part was weird. This is the bodice pinned to the skirt in a half-round shape. I tried to pin it according to my body shape because the lines from the original pattern looked odd.

I sewed the bodice to the skirt part on the sides first before doing the middle because there was so much fabric at the back.

Most of the back is gathered to fit the middle of the bodice back. It makes such a beautiful train that I kept it deliberately longer than it should be for a house dress. It is also much better at lounging.

The pleats are so messy, I am not used to that in historical costuming.

Here is the look from the original dress. It looks similar to my chaos.

All that is left now, is the hemming of the dress. I don't know why, but it is always my least favourite part.

I marked a centimeter from the bottom, ironed it, measured out 6cm, folded it, then ironed it again.

And that was part two of the dress!

The picture is made about 66 years later. I just realized it after taking the pictures but that's not something I could change. Oh well.

As this was a house dress, I only did activities that I could do inside. And I am pretty sure, napping over a book was very historicaly accurate. 😂

Here is also part two of the video

    I hope you enjoyed this!

    Hello lovelies,

I wanted to make a nice cap after the Regency dress I finished but it was so hard to find surviving extants and pictures in general. I dove into museums and libraries that shared their collection for free online.

In the end I found a cap I especially liked from the Riksmuseum, located in the Netherlands. follow the link here to go there.

small portraits of women wearing regency caps

It was published in the magazine "Magazine of Female Fashions of London and Paris, No.31.2, London Head Dresses" around 1800. This cap especially caught my eye:

I liked how the hair was not completely hidden underneath the cap and there was a kind of veil over the eyes.I immediately set to work and made about 5 different mock-ups before I found the pattern I liked.

Normally I only do one mock up and it fits, at least for modern or lolita clothing. But for historical clothing I always find myself doing mock-up after mock-up because it is not quite right. It stresses me because I have the feeling that I just can't do it properly. I remember also doing about 5 mock-ups of my Edwardian corset before it finally fit. But it cost me a lot of time and nerves.

I bought a very fine cotton fabric at my favourite fabric store for the base. I still had see-through but stiff silk for the veil. I made the mock up with cotton and tulle, but felt the tulle didn't look good enough.

And here is the finished look.
